"Nosferatu" 1922

Black and white adaptation of Bram Stokers Dracula. Silent film.
Preface to the film has remark concerning innocents and the cursed name Dracula that brought fear into the heart of man.
Cut away scenes as rounded edges and lens closing in.
Harker leaves Mina with his friends and tells Mina that nothing will happen to him. ***Like Anton leaving Egor with Tiger and Bear**
Harker hurries on to his appointment with Dracula *** Anton going to Sveta's hurrying from Egor's**
Evils spirits become all powerful after dark. Harker is warned.
Harker throws his hat on his bed - a peasant takes it off and hangs it up. This means very bad luck.
Harker reads a book entitles Book of the Vampires "1443 was the first year of the vampires" The book mentions birds of prey. Harker throws the book as if it is nonsense. In the book "Men cannot always recognize the dangers that animals can - Harker is watching the pastoral scene of horses being rounded up for his cart team.
"Hurry the sun will soon be setting" he is warned as he approaches Dracula's castle. The cart moves through the mountain passes, but the driver tells Harker that they will not go further for any money as there begins the land of the phantoms.
Harker crossed the bridge and it states that once he crossed the bridge the phantoms came to meet him. **Like the day and the night watch on the bridge**
Harker is met by a strange man in a carriage that takes him the rest of the way to Dracula's castle. The man deposits him and points to the castle before driving off hurredly.
Harker walks through the door of the castle into the courthyard as the doors open automatically.
Inside he meets another strange man that tells him that it is almost midnight and that all his servnets have retired for the night. The man appears to be Dracula. They dine together, by D just reads and looks strangely at HArker. The clock strikes midnight and Harker is surprised and cuts himself with a knife cutting bread and D notices and tells him it is his precious blood and follows him. Harker is completly weirded out. The two stayed up all night and talked as D suggested as he had all day to sleep. HArker felt that as Day came he was freed from the terrrors of the night. He looks much rested and looks at his thumb where the cut was and at his neck in a mirror as if there were vampite bites. HArd to tell in the picture.
Harker sees the tanle ful of food and eats and drink his full. AFter this her goes out into the courtyard and looks at the scenaary and writes a letter to Nina and tells her it is a strange country. He tells her of the two bites on his neck and doesn't know from what. Also that he had dream and full of nightmare, but that she should not worry.
Harker gets a yound man on a horse to stop so he can deliver the letter. The man doesn't stay and leaves in a hurry.
As night fell the castle had many shadows. D notices the picture of Nina that Harker has with him and notices that she has a lovely throat. He tells Harker that the house adjacent to his in London will be fine.
Harker later finds the small book of the vampires in his bag and reads of how the vampire feeds off the blood of his victims and can be seen with fangs on the neck. HArker looks out his door and sees D standing there looking menacing. He looks out the window and sees the fall over 100 feet high and dosn to a river.
The door opens and D walks into Harker's room and HArker hides underneathe his covers. Then the scene switches to that of Nina and she is sleepwalking. outside she goes and falls and the doctor is clled.
The scene is called back to HArker and D is standing over him and has his claws up in a shadow. Nina calls out in England and calls to Johnathon and if she senses the danger for him. D walks out of the room discrated as if he heard Nina call to him. Nina is exhausted and faints with a sudden fever.
The note states that nina has come down with a an unknown disease and that she sensed Nosferatu that night and that Harker felt her call to him as a warning.
Harker awakes again and looks like he had a bad night and feels his neck and forehead. THhen he opens his door slowly looking for the nightmare of the night before. He runs ourside.
Then he runs across the courtyard and into a basement where he sees the coffin where D stays and finds D in it, but does nothing but run away.
He wakes on the floor of his room and then looks out his other window and sees a man putting coffins on a flatbed cart and driving away.
Harker then ties his sheets together and clims down his long wall and lands tired and maybe hurt.
There is a river and on the river is Harker being caried by peasnats that brought him to a hospital and he had been suffering with fever. Harker awakes in the hospital and screems of coffins with dirt in them.
The scene switches to the Demeter and the cargo of the coffins theat are being loaded onto them. the men loading the coffins spill one of the coffins and earth and rats jusmp out.
A note mentions that the ship is approaching Bremen where nina is and that terror is going there.
Then a bout Van helsing having a scientific show with his students and telling about a carnivorous plant. There is a fly that goes into the plnat and is eaten. VH tells that the plant is the vampire of the plant work.
Renfeld, Harkers boss, is being controlled by D. Renfeld is admitted to the hospital and is mad. He sits in the hostpial and eat s flies and talks of blood. Renfeld tried to attack one of the doctors.
VH tells the students of another type of a small tranparent polyp that is also a vampire.
Renfeld points at a spider in a well eating another bug.
Statemtnt that Nina sits by the dunes wating for Harkers return on the sea. and so she sits.Nina gets a letter from Harker and finds out that he is leaving and going to her at that moment.
Harker has gotten better in the hospital, but is still weak
THe Demeter sails and a man with a horse walk in the forest.
Renfeld steals a letter out of a sweaping man's pocket. It is a newspaper that tells of the new plague to baffle science about two piercings in a man's neck.
The ship sails and a man rides a horse. Is the man Harker going bakc to Bremen?
The ship. Men are falling ill as striken by something. A doctor of sorts on the ship gives the men something to drink.
a shadow of D sits on the ship - like a projection.
Harker walks the horse.
Then the captain, at sunset, and the first man burry the last man on the ship. They throw him overboard. The captian says that he wants to have a look in the hold of the ship and takes a hacket. He breaks a casket, but only rats come out. Then D stand up without bending his knees and starts to raise his hand. The captain runs screeming and falls overboard. The first mate ties himself up and prepares to save him as D walkd very slowly across the deck toward the mate.
Statement. harker moves on. The ship also, but slowly as it has no crew.
nina stands in the window and waits.
Nica sees men on horse and goes to them. Scene of waves and wind.
She is seen outside claiming that he is coming and that she must go to him - but who? H or D?
Horses pull up and the ship pulls in to port.
Renfeld starts to climb the walls to the window so he can see. he exclaims that the master is coming!
slow stop shot of door opeing on its own and a sheet being moved with no force. D comes up from the hold.
Renfeld kills a guard.
Statement of narrator who was trying to deterimin why there was earth in the coffins and he just came to understnad that vampires need to sleep in the same unhallowed ground of their home.
Man carrying a coffin through town in his arms. Rats on the ship scurrying.
man runnign into town - must be Harker - man with coffin.
Harker and Nina. She looks happy. Harker kisses her and she states that he is safe and she has been saved now.
D smiles and is happy as he passes their house.
D in a boat carrying the coffin in his arms and enters a house by disappearing and going through the door.
People search the ship and find the dead mate tied to the wheel. They untie him.not a single living soul on ship. Men find the captains log and find that it has the record of it only being a few men left at the end. Man takes log and leaves with another man. They read from the log and learn of a sickness and a stowaway below decks. They pasted Gibralter and men already deak. Mate out of his mind. Rats - the plague? The men assert the plague and tell others to stay in their houses.
The streets of Bremen is a lone drummer announcing the coming of the plague and that reading the proclaimation that they are forbidden to bring their sick to the hospitals.
A man walks around in the street and draws white chalk crosses on peoples's doors and closes windows. Then there is a funeral procession through the streets as men carry a coffin.
statemetn taht Nina promised to Harker that she would never open the book of the vampites, but she couldn't put it down nor help herself. In it she finds out that only a woman can break the spell of the nosferatu by offering her pure blood to him and will stay with him until after the cock has crowed. She is caught reading this book by Harker. They both look out the window and she tells of how right in front of her is the Nosferatu. Harker looks, but shakes his head and stands in front of the window. He walks very stifyy and falls on the bed in anquish as if it is more than he can take that the vampire should hav followed him home and is now hauntin ghis nina.
Statemtent that the townspeople are in terror over who will die and is caught by the plague.
a woman lies in pain and a doctor goes to her and leaves and the wind blows the curtains.
A woman watches a ling procession of many coffins being walked down the street and she is in sadess. It is nina and she sees again the book of the vampire and reads the passage and knows what she must do.
THere is a group of people, old women standing together telling of how they saw or know that a man strangled his caretaker. It is Renfled and the people of the twon go after him as he sits on a roof and has rocks thrown at him. He runs away.
Nina is sewing and feels or hears the call of the vampire.
Renfeld runs into the countryside as the townsfolk chase him. he hides. The people see a scarcrow and rip it a part.
D stand sin the window and calls to Nina from across the street. She clutches her chrest and walks to the window and opens it. D reaches his hands menacingly. Harker sleeps in a chair in the same toom as Nina. D walks away as if to go to her and she starts to faint andclutch her head. D walks out of the house. Nina faints in H's arms and he puts her to bed and calls for the doctor.
when H is gone Nina gets up and goes to the open window. The shadow of D with very long claws goes to her up the stairs. Nina falls back into bed and teh shadow of D is on her.
H goes to get VH and they both go to Nina where D is sucking on her neck. The rooster crows. D looks up. Renfld hears his master's call and starts to climb the walls agian. VH walks to Nina's and D sees the coming up of the sun. He staggers in front of the light and there is a fire where D used to be. He becomes more transparent and disappears.
Renfled claims the master is dead.
Nina hold up her arms as if she is a vampire and calls to H. She faints.
Statmetn - as if with a mriracle teh town no longer died and the death fell away with the morning sun. Light of the sun fell on the house. The end. ***The light of the sun on the building looked like the morning sun on the builidng in Daywatch when Anton climbed and wrote No on the chalkboard.***
